Darren T. Murphy

Mr. Murphy has over 25 years of international experience in the mining, LNG, power generation, and oil and gas industry, with a core focus on electrical/instrumentation and control systems. He has worked for major operating companies and EPC Contractors on the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of large industrial facilities. His expertise encompasses all phases of the project lifecycle, from the initial Front End Engineering Design (FEED) through to the final commissioning and operation of such plants.

Darren began his career at BHP/Hatch, gaining hands-on engineering and commissioning experience on mining, petrochemical, and LNG projects in Australia. After relocating to London, he joined KBR, where he contributed to the design of multiple LNG plants. He later worked with Wood Group and BP on the design, construction, and commissioning of Caspian platforms and associated subsea systems. His career further expanded to include work on Energy from Waste (EFW) power plants in London and Copenhagen, followed by a role with McDermott, where he supported the FEED/EPC contract for a major BP project in Mauritania.

Since joining Baker & O’Brien in 2022, Darren has provided strategic support to clients in pre-arbitration technical engineering matters, successfully facilitating settlement agreements. He has been appointed as an expert witness in multiple commercial arbitrations, testifying across a wide range of energy sector disputes, including those involving nuclear power plants, offshore Floating Production Storage and Offloading units (FPSOs), and onshore drilling rigs.
